“I stayed at this Airbnb over the summer and the quality was much, much worse than represented. The host has thus far refused to give me a full or partial refund for my horrible experience. When I first checked into the apartment, it was dirty, messy, and filled with junk. In fact, it was dirty to the point of being unhygenic. More significantly, one of the bedroom windows had a huge hole in it (it was big enough for me to comfortably fit my arm outside the window. The air conditioning units were not working and their was an additional old broken unit lying in the middle of the bedroom that had not been disposed of. Also, the fire alarm system was broken, the WiFi was slow to the point of not being useable, appliances such as the microwave did not work, and their was a cockroach problem from day 1. I spent a significant amount of time cleaning the apartment after checking in, which makes me wonder what the point was of paying a cleaning fee to Airbnb. I immediately tried to contact someone to address the issues. Despite repeated messages through the Airbnb messaging system, emails, and phone calls to the provided number, I was unable to reach anyone for a few days. When I did reach someone, they were rude and dismissive of my issues. They treated me like I had no right to be contacting them. Although they did eventually send someone to put tape over the window (which is not equivalent to actually fixing it and which meant I could hear a lot of noise outside) and fix the AC, they did not properly address the numerous other issues. The problems continued as the summer went on. I spotted cockroaches in different parts of the apartment on an almost daily basis even after they claimed to have an exterminator come spray the apartment. I would like to emphasize that my roommate and I tried to keep the apartment extremely clean in order to prevent cockroaches, but the problem still persisted. Additionally, when I continued to complain about the slow Internet, they refused to acknowledge my issues and said the Internet works fine. It was very difficult to get in touch with anyone over the phone and the management structure of the company was sketchy. My messages and emails were often simply ignored. I could tell whenever I called (and actually got a hold of someone) that they found me to be an annoyance, despite the fact that I obviously had legitimate concerns. They even made threats toward me that made me feel physically unsafe staying in the apartment. In summary, it was an ongoing battle this summer with the incompetent managers of this apartment and they were unresponsive to my requests. More importantly, this apartment was completely misrepresented on Airbnb.
